"Ode to Bono"

You lit up the city
You lit up our skies
You lit up my conscious
You left me on a high

Bono; son of Ireland
One of ours too
You left your mark on all of us
Mother Africa’s indelible mark on you

The mother land still burning
But this phoenix on the rise
To soar once again through the clear blue skies

Your spirit shines bright
Keep shining your light
Walk on … walk on’

This poem was sent to Talk Radio 702 in Johannesburg by a listener and was read by the hostess, Redi Tlabi. In a very simple but moving way, it describes what many of us feel about the frontman of U2.
