Bono took a walk along Istanbul's Bosphorus bridge connecting Asia and Europe to mark the band's first ever concert being played in the city.

The U2 frontman along with band members The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr are performing in Turkey's capital as part of their 360 tour.

Bono, wearing his trademark shades and leather, spoke at the event.

"Last September I was asking, what would be the most inspiring thing about Istanbul? And I said you know it is the bridge between the east and the west. It is the bridge between Europe and Asia, it is the bridge between the secular and religious.

It is very important. And then you suggested maybe you would like to walk on the bridge? Would you like to play a concert? And I said a walk will be much easier than a concert. Now I am not so sure."

The rock band also met Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan who Bono presented with a gift from his Red Campaign charity.
