U2 Rehearsing in Auckland

Edge has posted a picture in his Twitter account of (obviously) One Tree Hill, the tallest five volcanic islands which make up Auckland, New Zealand. The song makes reference to their friend and value member of the U2 organization, Greg Carroll who passed away during The Joshua Tree Tour.

"The imaginery of (the song) ´One Tree Hill' superbly evoked the seafaring heritage of Carroll´s Maori ancestors. A spiritual tour de force, it is a hymn of praise and celebration which describes the traditional Maori  burial of their friend on One Tree Hill and links it poetically with themes of renewal and redemption, with the river running, running down to the sea." (Niall Stokes: U2 The Stories Behind Every U2 Song)

The band started rehearsing for their concert at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland for next Thursday 25th.

There was a  surprise  for the fans huddled at the Beasley Rd entrance as they ran through Scarlet for the first time.

And New Zealand's favourite U2 song also got some time tonight - Bono introducing it by saying to the assembled fans and crew, 'Tonight we just think about these people who are still under the ground and our hopes and our prayers are with them this evening,' referencing the mining disaster on the country's West Coast.

So...New Album Soon?

Producer, Mixer and Recording Engineer Declan Gaffney is mixing tracks for U2, according to London Artilery Studios posted in  twitter.

In 2009 he mixed half of U2’s album “No Line On The Horizon” as well as being the sole mixer and co-producer of the lead single from that album. His relationship with U2 continued throughout the year as he mixed all u2’s live broadcast appearances, including 5 appearances on the David Letterman show, a live show from the roof of the BBC Broadcasting House, U2 360 live from Sheffield and u2 360 live from LA Rose Bowl, the largest ever internet streaming and first live broadcast on Youtube (over 10 million viewers). He was given the role of Sound Production Consultant for the U2 360 stadium tour and contributed the original piece “Little Tin Galaxy” to the show as well as setting up and recording live link ups between the the International Space Center and the U2 show.
So far in 2010 he has Produced, Mixed and Engineered the collaboration between Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono and Edge for the Hope For Haiti lead single “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)” and mixed the live broadcast of the track for the MTV Haiti Telethon.
As a remixer he works with Matt Paul as part of the Fish Out Of Water. Their 2009 remix of “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” was released as a B-side to the single and their “Get On Your Boots” Remix appears on the Official U2 remix album Artificial Horizon.

So it seems that what Paul Mc Guiness has anticipated may come true...New U2 album soon?? Let´s sit and wait!!!

Bono´s Controversial Words

A few days ago, Bono wrote his usual column for the New York Times. While most of the subjects he wrote about have been highly praised and taken into account, there was one that was obviously not left behind (pardon my pun!). Of course I´m talking about the one where he writes about the rights of intellectual property, downloading and the rest: Intellectual Property Developers. he called it.
Many voices raised in favour and against the issue. For example, Kris Novoselic (Nirvana´s bassit and activist for Joint Artists and Music Promotions Political Actions Committee) wrote an article called : Why I Agree with Bono for the Seattle Weekly while Walter Naeslund (who calls himself Advertising Agency Entrepreneur, Professional Speaker, and Hopeless Optimist) in his blog wrote a self implicit article Why Bono is an Idiot (This Time) which has a highly repercusion in the Net especially in Twitter . Today Naeslund wrote another article Why Bono is not REALLY an Idiot, But Would Perhaps Need To Think a Little Harder . The controversy that follows confirms, in a way, the power of these Internet tools and makes us think of Bono´s words on creativity and property rights.

SNL: Light my Way

The band performing Ultraviolet for Saturday Night Live last night.

U2 performed three songs during the show and continued to play one more song afterward just for the NBC studio audience. They played "Breathe" followed by a shortened version of "Moment of Surrender," and the show ended while U2 did "Ultraviolet" complete with Bono's laser-light jacket and the swinging microphone routine. After the broadcast ended, U2 played one more song -- "With or Without You" -- just for the studio audience.
